In his new solo piece, the satirical one-man theater called “NOW”, Alfred Dorfer, as is typical for him, elegantly transforms into the most diverse characters in quick succession. On stage, we see not only grandmothers and innkeepers, but also bears, carp, and sunflowers. In “NOW”, a story is told through numerous narrative and temporal excursions. Are we allowed to take what we see at face value? The timelines blur into one another, as do poetry and wordplay, philosophy and fantasy.
In the German-speaking world, the satirist with a penchant for socio-political themes is unique in his characteristic form of representation. His training in pantomime and acting benefits the Viennese artist. With charming assurance and much self-irony, Alfred Dorfer, as a keen observer of our everyday life, takes societal trends to task as the rhetorical brother Lightfoot. He playfully interacts with his audience, and nothing and no one is safe from his unexpected trains of thought.
